“Electricité du Liban” enumerated the damage to the transmission network in the south: We are doing our best to repair the faults
Fady Mahouly
The “Electricité du Liban” announced in a statement, “The recent Israeli attacks continuing since the second of last March led to severe damage to the transmission network/high tension, which caused great difficulties in securing electrical supply in several Lebanese regions, especially the south. These faults that occurred due to the enemy are distributed as follows:
- The 66 KV Sultaniya station was out of service due to it being exposed to direct bombardment on 03-19-2026. The corporation has prepared the equipment required for maintenance work, pending the availability of appropriate conditions to begin repairs.
The two main 66 kV transmission lines that feed the Wadi Gilo and Al-Sultaniya stations were disrupted on April 1, 2026, due to Israeli attacks. They suffered severe damage that led to the destruction of a high-voltage tower and interruption of conductors in various areas. The Corporation immediately began installing a new tower, but the technical teams were unable to complete the work due to several raids near the works sites, where the workers miraculously survived injury, which They were forced to evacuate the work sites, leaving behind the maintenance equipment hanging on the high-tension towers until the required security conditions were available to complete the work.
The main 220 kV substation in Tyre went out of service on April 16, 2026, as a result of the interruption of the 220 kV Zahrani-Tyre line transmissions. The corporation succeeded in repairing the line on April 18, 2026 and restored the electrical supply to the Tyre station, that is, supplying the city of Tyre and its suburbs, during the ceasefire, which did not last long.
- The main 66 kV substation in Marjayoun was out of service on 05-28-2026 as a result of the disruption of the main Abdel-Al-Marjayoun 66 kV transmission line. Due to Israeli attacks near the station, where a high-voltage tower was destroyed. This transmission line is the only line that remained in service, feeding the main Marjayoun station after the exit of the Sultaniyah-Taybeh-Marjayoun 66 kV reserve line during the month of March 2026 due to the Israeli attacks, as it sustained serious damage that we have not been able to determine to date due to the line being located in areas that are still under occupation. Accordingly, the main transfer station in Marjayoun has become completely isolated from the sources of the Tire station and the Abdel-Al plant, noting that the station Marjayoun supplies large areas of Marjayoun, Shebaa, Arqoub and Hasbaya districts, all of which are currently without electrical power.
The statement added: “Also, this same line returned and was subjected to other serious damage the day before yesterday, 6/7/2026, as a result of the Israeli bombing on the towns of Yahmr and Qalia in the Western Bekaa. Since the Israeli withdrawal from the towns of Balat and Dibine, the Foundation has been in close contact with the Lebanese Army in parallel with the International Red Cross, so that it in turn provides support and obtains the required approvals to secure the work sites to begin repairs on the route of the line from Marjayoun all the way to Abdel Al’s factory.
Accordingly, in the face of this painful reality, the Foundation would like to inform dear citizens that it is doing its utmost to repair the faults in the areas of attacks in the south, exclusively from its own budget and its own revenues, and will begin completing the repairs when favorable conditions exist and obtain the required approvals from the relevant authorities to secure the work sites in order to preserve the lives of its workers and employees.
The Electricité du Liban Corporation will provide the people of the south with any new information in this regard as soon as new data becomes available.”
